Interview with Arithmos's Founder Michelle Wang

It all started with my daughter who had this skin condition where she was constantly scratching. I’ve put a lot of products on her, but nothing really worked. The amount of different products I have put on her skin was worrying as a parent, I’ve found the ingredients and label were complicated. So I’ve decided to do something about it.

I attended organic skincare workshop making my own skincare products, I did a lot of research on botanical oils. That result in creating a product not only relieve my daughter’s skin condition but to see her skin returned to a healthy, supple state. Inspired to go even further, I went back to being a student and enrolled in a skincare formulation course, juggling the studies alongside my successful career as an accountant in the banking industry. I am now a qualified Cosmetic Chemist.

I feel like body care products in the market are an after thought and there was a lack of high quality body care in the market. Arithmos was born from my desire to create simple, natural body care with seasonal ingredients that is highly effective and powerful. Body care products that people can trust and love.

 

I think transparency and integrity are the biggest lesson I’ve learned about the beauty industry. Since becoming a cosmetic chemist, I’ve realised a lot of the beauty products in the markets focused on their marketing effort on their hero ingredients which could be less than 1% of the products while the remainder of the ingredients were either synthetic, refined-natural ingredients (but still can claim as natural product) or non-organic.

I believe as the consumers are more educated about the ingredients, the impact the brands have on the environment & community. They will demand more transparency from the brands. I can already see a lot of the beauty brands are heading towards that direction.

 

Arithmos products are certified Vegan and cruelty free. Our products are made for humans and never tested on animals, only on my family and friends.

The ingredients used in the product are sourced organically where possible and are 100% plant-based.  The products are produced in micro-batches, I work with my suppliers to get only the freshest batch of ingredients they get from the growers. That’s what makes Arithmos is so unique as our goal is to bottle our ingredients at maximum freshness so you can reap the best benefits, from plant to skin.

We should treat our skin the same way we treat our health; we need to nurture skin by feeding it with the best possible nutrients. I believe the most powerful way to nurture your skin is by using natural, organic ingredients of the highest quality. We’ve used premium base oils like Camellia Seed, Jojoba and Rosehip, and unique essential oil blends delivering not only skin benefits, but also mood-enhancing aromatherapy benefits to rebalance your mind and spirit. 

We do not add any artificial fragrances into our products. The scents you smell come naturally from the plant-based oils, and are testament to the freshness and quality of the ingredients we use.

 

After a warm shower or hot bath, when skin is still damp. Pat dry the skin and massage the body oil into skin until absorbed. The oil is fast absorbing and won’t leave residue on your skin (it won’t stick to your silk PJ  ). You can also use it to tame frizzy hair or flyaways, soften cuticles and even apply a dab on pulse points when you need a perk-me-up during the day.
